Critical Analysis
A young boy skateboards across the Brooklyn Bridge to the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan. There he encounters works by some of the most famous artists in the collection: Rousseau, Picasso, and Matisse. Soon the images from each canvas break free and joy the young boy on a day trip through New York City. In the end, the boy is captivated and is left inspired to make his own mark in the world. The artwork is superb in this picture book. The illustrations are made of color pencil and watercolor and they leap off of the page with delight. The emotions of the boy and his new friends are seen in the vibrant color and movement of the work.
The illustrations show New York City landmarks in a full-color explosion. The book is magical and wondrous for young readers who want to stroll through a museum of art and a city of lights.
