Plot Summary
A pig mother sends her boy pigs away to live life on their own. They build houses that the wolf can get into and eats two pigs. The third pig, the intelligent one of all of them, uses bricks for his home. The wold cannot get in so he tries to invite the pig to meet him to pick apples and go to the fair. The smart pig won't budge so the wolf comes in down the chimney. The pig is too smart and has a pot of water boiling in the fireplace. The wolf falls in and now the pig has his dinner.

Critical Analysis
This version of The Three Little Pigs is altered just a bit but stays true to most of the original story. The words are surrounded by colorful illustrations and engage the reader with color.

The story includes the repetition of the plot for each pig like a folktale. Until the third brother pig outshines the wolf.

Some of the language like, “not by the hair on my chinny chin chin," is kept from the original story. This story is called a beast tale because it includes animals that act like humans. The characters show good and evil characteristics.

In the end, the pig is happy that he has outwitted the wolf and lives his life in peace. It teaches kids to make smart choices, unlike the brothers who were eaten.

Awards & Review Excerpt
“While the story does not spare anything, it does not go into great detail; young readers can still enjoy the theme of readiness, hard work and the third pig's triumph.” -  (Children's Literature)

Connections
Ask children the importance of building a strong home and discuss building materials that are stronger than others. Show them cardboard, a brick, and popsicle sticks.
